During a summer’s afternoon in 2022, a 450-foot fireball exploded at a liquefied natural gas terminal south of Houston, rocking sunbathers on Quintana Beach, adjacent to the Freeport LNG terminal, and rattling homes for miles around.

A lot of us are savvy enough consumers to know that when something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. But the companies go right on with their slick sales pitches instead of giving us straight talk about the way the proposed terminals would impact our communities.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is a fossil gas made primarily of methane that has been cooled and condensed into a liquid form. This makes it easier to transport, especially by ship over long distances, as it takes up about 600 times less space than its gas form.
More and more gigantic tankers carrying LNG, liquefied natural gas, are crisscrossing the oceans – and we're building infrastructure to trade ever larger amounts.
Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) has become increasingly popular as a source of clean and efficient energy. It is a versatile fuel that can be used for power generation, heating, and as a transportation fuel. But have you ever wondered how LNG is made?
